Camping Les Criques de Porteils
France, Pyrénées-Orientales, Argelès-sur-Mer
Only a stone's throw separates Camping Les Criques de Porteils from the Spanish border, whose part of Catalonia is called Costa Brava here. Situated between Argelès-sur-Mer and Collioure, the campsite impresses with its quite exceptional location in the nature reserve on high rocky cliffs with a fantastic view over the Mediterranean Sea. Les Criques de Porteils is a small, very family-friendly five-star campsite for active campers who are interested in nature and culture. Rather untypically for France, the number of rental accommodations is small compared to the pitches. Following the wild terrain profile, these vary in size and nestle in terraces on the steep slope. There is a choice between panoramic pitches with sea views and pitches on the side away from the sea with an equally expansive view across vineyards to mountains. With an opening period from March to the beginning of November, the site offers a comparatively long season and may also be considered as a stopover for the one or other camper travelling to or coming back from wintering in Spain or Portugal.
What a contrast: the bustling tourist life on the endless sandy beaches of Argelès-sur-Mer is only a few minutes by bike from this tranquil nature retreat, and the hinterland of Les Criques de Porteils beckons you to hike and explore with magnificent hiking trails, old fortress ruins and dreamlike views of the sea. Famous vineyards around Collioure and Banyuls are as tempting as boat excursions along the picturesque rocky coast from Port Vendres. Even Barcelona is only a day trip away.
